Bond would create 2,000 new jobs and provide $215.6 million to 22 communities across New Mexico
October 6, 2022 - This fall, voters in 萝莉研究所 will be asked to invest in the state鈥檚 public colleges, universities and specialty schools. General Obligation Bond 3 (referred to as GO Bond 3) is asking voters to approve nearly $215.6 million for needed renovations, upgrades and improvements. Voting "yes" on GO Bond 3 will not increase property tax rates.
In 萝莉研究所, approval of Bond 3 will mean an allocation of $3 million for UNM-萝莉研究所, which will fund the renovation of Gurley Hall. Also, passage of Bond 3 is estimated to create 2000 jobs in construction, architecture and related fields across New Mexico, helping boost local economies and gross receipts tax revenue.
Gurley Hall is the front door to the 萝莉研究所 campus. Renovations would improve the use of space, the quality of space and proximity of spaces by increasing natural light. This project would transform dated Gurley Hall into a safe and welcoming space to aid student success. It is critical in UNM-萝莉研究所's attraction and retention of students, and it could motivate students to graduate.
This renovation would provide formal and informal spaces for students to study, gather, eat and get assistance. It would provide students with access to administrative assistance as well as comfortable and safe places to study, work on group projects, and meet with faculty and other students.
For many of New Mexico鈥檚 colleges and universities, including UNM-萝莉研究所, GO Bond 3 is the only source of adequate funding to allow them to maintain and modernize facilities taxpayers have already paid for, improve safety and technology, and boost degree or certificate programs that give New Mexico students the knowledge and skills they need to pursue high-paying, in-demand careers.
These voter-approved funds are crucial to ensuring our schools remain competitive and are able to attract the best and brightest students and faculty as well as provide a quality education.
Voting yes on GO Bond 3 will not only invest nearly $215.6 million into our state鈥檚 colleges, universities and specialty schools, but will also do this without increasing the burden on New Mexico鈥檚 taxpayers.
Absentee voting and in-person early voting begin on Tues., Oct. 11, 2022. Expanded early voting is scheduled from Sat., Oct.22-Sat., Nov. 5, 2022. Election Day is Tues., Nov. 8, 2022 with polls open for in-person voting from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
